After twenty years of dreaming, creating, and tweaking, Rodger Westhoff knew he had a product that could change the way golfers approach putting. What he didn’t know was how to bring that product to market in a way that would appeal to consumers.
When Rodger selected Sandbox Creative to help him design and create an ecommerce website to promote his product, the Titanic Putting System, he partnered with the agency, willing to listen to the guidance Sandbox had to offer. Rodger’s cooperation and trust in Sandbox may have led him in a completely different direction than he’d initially thought, but Sandbox was able to develop a stellar advertising solution that allowed Rodger to promote his product in a clear and concise way. Rodger designed the putting system and created the name, Titanic Putter. Sandbox created the logo, branding, positioning, market strategy, and put together a social media marketing promotion.
The most important goal was to identify the unique selling point quickly. They needed to set the Titanic Putter apart from other putters and to build a marketing solution emphasizing that point. Rodger came to Sandbox having put years of time, energy, and effort into this project, and (like most entrepreneurs) he wanted to tell his whole story. Sandbox convinced Rodger that his lengthy story wasn’t necessarily one people had the time to listen to—a better solution would be to get consumers to understand what made the Titanic Putting System different, and quickly. If consumers weren’t engaged within the first several seconds, they would check out before they had a chance to hear the rest of the story.
Sandbox worked with Rodger to create a promotional video that used professional voiceover talent to focus on the uniqueness of the putting system. They also created four training videos to speak to additional questions consumers may have. The videos and information graphics on the website tell a complete story that visitors to the website can understand right away, hopefully enticing them to invest in the product.
Sandbox Creative’s head, Dave Cox states, “I like working with entrepreneurs because of their passion. It’s very contagious.” He notes that the best solutions come to clients that are flexible and open to new recommendations, like Rodger. If clients come with a preconceived plan and a closed mind, solutions don’t tend to work out as well. The coolest thing about working with Rodger was that he was willing to trust Sandbox completely to bring his baby to life. After twenty years of countless design and engineering adjustments and with the help of Sandbox Creative, Rodger’s Titanic Putting System has finally hit the market.
